Science
Robert Bruce School
Science Department has three fully refurbished very well equipped
laboratories, a well-run preparation laboratory and an enthusiastic staff
whose aim is to encourage and help students to achieve their best in a
happy and sympathetic environment.
Pupils throughout the
school follow a balanced science course which contains elements of biology,
chemistry and physics. We aim to
provide a stimulating, interesting and relevant course which is not only
suitable for those wishing to gain qualifications in Science but will
enable pupils to increase their knowledge and understanding of Science and
to develop an awareness of the role and importance of Science in everyday
life. They will be encouraged to
assess and evaluate the part played by Science in our modern society and to
understand, through their work, not only the benefits that Science can
bring in helping to solve some global problems but also the effects of its
misuse.
Much of the course is
practically based, providing an opportunity not only to increase the
pupil’s powers of observation, questioning, seeking solutions,
suggesting explanations, and testing their ideas but also to improve their
practical skills, safety awareness and confidence in dealing with new
situations. Opportunities are provided
for the students to develop and use a variety of communication skills and
techniques, including ICT, involved in obtaining, presenting, and
responding to information.
