RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Religious Education has an important
contribution to make to the curriculum, which in the words of the Education
Reform Act “promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and
physical development of pupils at the school and of society, and prepares
such pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of
adult life.” (ERA 1)
At Robert Bruce, pupils develop skills
for exploring religious and human experience, responding personally to this
exploration and expressing their responses in a variety of ways. Pupils
undertake work which is appropriate to their ages and development through programmes of study, directly or indirectly related to
the themes of writing, people, worship, places, festivals and celebrations,
rites and rules, self and others and the natural world.
The work of the R.E. department reflects
the fact that “the religious traditions in Great Britain are in the main
Christian, whilst taking account of the teaching and practices of other
principal religions represented.” (ERA 3)
The schemes of work are based on the
Bedfordshire Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education 2004.
