Support the Three Tier System and help save our Schools

A letter from a ex Robert Bruce pupil.

My name is Richard Farrar, I graduated Robert Bruce School in 1961. At that time it was a senior school and only partially completed. After my graduation I moved from Bedfordshire to Kent and in 1980 I emigrated to the United States where  I served as a Police Officer in the San Francisco Bay Area for 27 years before my retirement in 2006, when I moved to the state of Nevada.

I am hoping to contact some of my old school friends and enclose a picture of my class. ( I am back row fourth from the left). Some of the names I remember are;

 Dennis McAffery, Michael Collier, Adrian Beal, Linda Flute, Lindsey Smith, Ian Mansfield, Howard Breed, Graham Daynton, Roy Morris, Judith Wolston, Eleanor McGregor, Dawn Walsh, Brenda Howe, Carol Gedge.

Our class teacher was Mr. Hill and the Headmaster was Mr. Booth.

Welcome to our school

I am delighted and extremely proud to be the headteacher of Robert Bruce Middle School. It is one of the biggest middle schools in the country with over 700 pupils and more than 70 teaching and support staff. We serve the communities of Kempston and the surrounding villages. Our pupils come from a range of backgrounds, cover the complete ability range but work hard together to form a genuine school family.

We strive to create a school environment where every pupil has the right to learn and every teacher has the right to teach. In brief, we aim to:

  • Create and maintain a secure, warm yet challenging environment, where each individual feels valued;
  • Educate the pupils about the benefits and rewards of a healthy lifestyle;
  • Ensure that each child is supported and challenged to achieve their full potential;
  • Ensure each child is encouraged and supported to make a full and positive contribution to school and community life;
  • Develop the ability of our pupils to think analytically and work as part of a team.

We cannot achieve the above on our own, however hard-working and dedicated our staff may be. We truly believe, however, we can fulfil them in co-operation with parents and carers.

Mike Short
Headteacher
